It’s something Hannah has heard from her mother again and again. But on this day — performing 不喜欢没有你的地方 (No Place Like You) by Eric Chou — was more than performative emotion; she was singing with love.

For Hannah, home has never been about the walls she lives within — but the people inside them.

At 18, she’s a student and a singer-songwriter who often shares her music online. But even before any of that, music was something shared quietly at home. Her dad sings. Her mom plays the guitar. Music was more than a hobby — it was a way of being together.

“I still remember my mom singing 新谣 (Xinyao) songs when I was a baby. I don’t remember the lyrics or titles, but I still hear the melody in my head — in her voice.”

Their closeness isn’t defined by grand gestures, but by everyday rhythms: telling each other about their day, celebrating wins, walking through challenges side by side. When the opportunity came to dedicate a song for Tune It Up's The Giving Tunes, the choice felt obvious.

The song she picked, 不喜欢没有你的地方 by Eric Chou, is familiar for her and her family.

“My dad doesn’t really know Chinese songs, but we watched a show together once where Eric Chou performed it.”

The title translates to "No Place Like You" — and it says exactly what Hannah has always felt but never really said out loud.

“不喜欢没有你的地方”("I don't like any place that isn't with you.")

Performing it was different from any other time she’d sung.This wasn’t a recital or practice session. This was a message.

“It means more when I’m not just feeling the song — but actually relating to it.”

Music has always been the quiet thread holding Hannah and her parents together. It’s more than a shared pastime — it’s the soundtrack to their love, their faith, and their connection.

“Even if you don’t understand the lyrics, if you mean what you sing, people will feel it. Music bridges people — across language, across moments. Especially with family.”
